Transparencies

I ran into Wally (he lives downstairs) at school. He asked me where we were supposed to get transparencies made for our presentations for senior seminar. I told him I was going to get mine done on Saturday. I offered to take his papers if he wanted, but he preferred to go. Ana and I saw him on "In the House," so I asked about it. He seemed surprised that I saw the show. It was kind of funny. We talked so smoothly, as if we always took the time to chat--and we had not. I told him I'd let him know what time I was going to the copy store. I hadn't yet decided.

That night, I left a note under Wally's doormat, letting him know I decided to go at 11 a.m. In the morning, he called me, confirming my note. We had a nice trip to the copy store. I got Wally to tell me more about his appearance on a TV show. He made $80 a day for two days. He also explained to me why his apartment is so clean. It turns out Wally is Mr. Responsible downstairs. He does the cleaning because that's the only way it will get done. He also has to keep people in his apartment in line, which makes him the bad guy, sometimes. "I feel for you, Wally," I told him.

"I feel for me, too," he said.
